St Lucia – South Africa’s first World Heritage Site

Awarded as a World Heritage site in 1999 (Unesco), this small but quaint village has fast become a top tourist destination. St Lucia also happens to be the most visited town in Africa to witness our beloved Hippos.

DAY 1 – 3    ARRIVE ST LUCIA, SOUTH AFRICA

If you fly into Johannesburg or Cape Town,  1 hour flight to St Lucia.

OCT 21 (3 NIGHTS)

You will be picked up at the St Lucia airport by your private chauffeur and transferred to the lodging location.

Optional activities:

  1. River Boat Cruise Hippo, Birds & Alligator viewing – 2 hrs 
  2. Drive to Cape Vidal & Mission Rocks Beach via iSimangaliso Wetland Park  
  • Free self drive Safari, viewing wildlife in their natural habitat.

DAY 4 – 5   DRIVE TO UMHLANGA ROCKS (NEAR DURBAN) – 3-4 hour drive

OCT 24 (2 NIGHTS)

  • We will stop along the way at small coastal villages 
  • Umlalazi Nature Reserve – possible walk on trails

  • Amatikulu Nature Reserve – possible walk on trails
  • Lunch – Raffia Restaurant Zinkwazi (or)  Ballito coastal town

  • Tala Reserve Game Drive

Low-key and off the well-beaten track, Tala spans some 3,000 hectares, encompassing a mix of acacia thornveld, open grassland and a sensitive wetland, which attracts more than 380 bird species, and plenty of big game, including kudu, hippo, giraffe and wildebeest.

DAY 6 DRIVE TO OUR HALFWAY POINT HEADING FOR ADDO NATIONAL PARK

OCT 26th – 1 NIGHT / 9 hour drive 

East London – Inkwenkwezi Private Reserve

Oct 27th – includes:

  • 8:30am game drive – 3 hours
  • 12pm – Buffett lunch (brunch)

   

DAY 7     DRIVE TO ADDO NATIONAL PARK  –  3.5 hour drive

Highlights of this full-day driving to get to our next two destinations, will lend to viewing opportunities of South Africa Landscapes ~  But when we get there, hopefully the hot tubs will be calling our names!

DAY 8 ADDO ELEPHANT NATIONAL PARK – HOME OF THE BIG FIVE

THIRD LARGEST NATIONAL PARK IN SOUTH AFRICA

Addo Elephant Park has expanded to conserve a wide diversity of landscapes, fauna and flora. Stretching from the semi-arid Karoo area in the North around Darlington Dam, over the rugged Zuurberg Mountains, through the Sundays River valley and South to the river mouth, Addo covers about 180 000 hectares (444 700 acres) and includes the Bird and St Croix Island groups. Antelope species, black rhino, buffalo, Cape mountain zebra, spotted hyenas, baboons, aardwolf and red rock rabbit are some of the many other game species found in the Park.

DAY 9 – 10  DRIVE TO THE GARDEN ROUTE – 4-5 Hour drive

The Garden Route is one of South Africa’s most popular and interesting stretches of coastline, a temperate landscape of sandy beaches, indigenous forests, rocky shores and quaint towns where you can do everything from savor fresh oysters to watch southern right whales at play.

DAY 11   DRIVE TO WINE COUNTRY –  4 HOURS

OCT 31    3 NIGHTS 

Activities along the way:

  • Possible visit/hike to a cave “The Point of Human Origins” – 90 min 
    • Based on availability at the time of booking

  • Shopping
  • Sightseeing

DAY 12 – 13 FRANSCHHOEK WINE COUNTRY / PAARL / ROBERTSON / STELLENBOSCH

Options:

  • Franschhoek Wine Train – hop on hop off to as many wineries as desired
  • Private driver – 6 hours 
  • Food & Forage Class with wine pairing – 3-4 hours 
  • Possible Food/Wine pairing dinner – Faber, Avondale Winey (or) Le Petit Ferme  
  • Visit Charmonix Winery & Food near our accommodations 

DAY 14  DRIVE SCENIC LOOP TO CAPE TOWN / 3-5 HOURS 

NOV 3 – 5th   –  2 NIGHTS 

Scenic drive to the eastern side of the Cape along the coastline then over the mountain (optional to drive to the Cape of Good Hope – most southern point, Cape Point Lighthouse) before overnighting near Cape Town.
